Upon completion of her bachelor’s degree in Bassoon Performance from the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University, Bloomington), Janelle returned to Boise to play in the Boise Phil, and she just completed her 38th season with that orchestra. In addition to her musical education, Janelle also earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from Boise State University, became a CPA, and pursued a 14-year career at Hewlett-Packard. In 2003, Janelle left Hewlett-Packard to open her private teaching studio, Brava Bassoon Studio. She also teaches bassoon at Boise State University, College of Idaho, and Northwest Nazarene University. In addition to her position as principal bassoon with the Boise Baroque Orchestra, Janelle also worked on the administrative side of the orchestra, first as a board member in the early years, then as the accountant until 2013. Besides playing and teaching the bassoon, Janelle enjoys yoga (she earned the 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher certificate in 2017), running and hiking and snowshoeing with her husband, Chris Jones.
