Conductor/Soloist workshop
June 19-24, 2023

The Boise Baroque Orchestra will present a six-day conductor/soloist workshop to explore repertoire from the 18th Century. Eight Conducting fellows and eight soloists will present two full concerts with the Boise Baroque Orchestra. The festival will take place in Boise, Idaho from June 19 through June 24, 2023. Both concerts will be videotaped for participants from behind the orchestra as well as from the hall. The workshop will take place at First Presbyterian Church in Downtown Boise – winter home of the Boise Baroque Orchestra.

​CONDUCTORS 

will study with Robert Franz, Artistic Director of the Boise Baroque Orchestra and Music Director of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. Each fellow will have ample podium time (about 3 hours each) to perform movements from an 18th century symphony as well as a movement of a standard concerto.

​AUDITION MATERIALS: Please submit a current resume plus 2 conducting videos of contrasting styles  (Baroque/Classical repertoire recommended, but not required) 
 

TUITION FEES: Conducting Fellows (including video)   $1450 (Food and housing not included)

​STRING SOLOISTS

​will have the opportunity to play one movement of a standard 18th Century concerto with the Boise Baroque Orchestra. In addition, students will play side-by-side with their professional counterparts on their “non-concerto” concert. Baroque Bows will be available for use during this festival courtesy of the Boise Baroque Orchestra.

Faculty members include Dr. Bryan Hall, violin professor at Georgia College and Jennifer Drake, Music Director of BPYO and Serenata Orchestra/principal viola of BBO. String students will work with all faculty throughout the workshop.


​AUDITION MATERIALS:  Letter of recommendation from private teacher plus video of 1 or 2 short works
(Baroque/Classical repertoire recommended, but not required)


TUITION FEES: String Concerto Soloists (Including video)   $ 850 (Food and housing not included)

Bach or Vivaldi Concerti
 
Viola Repertoire

Stamitz, Telemann, Hoffmeister concerti
 
Cello Repertoire
Haydn Cello Concerto in C
Boccherini Cello Concerto in B-flat
CPE Bach – Cello Concerto
   
 *NB: Double concertos are also a possibility and encouraged. Ask for more information.
