Dawn Douthit has been a member of BBO since its founding in 2003. Following a year as BBO’s Principal 2nd Violinist she was awarded the position of Concertmaster, a chair she’s held since 2004. Serving as BBO’s Board President from 2005-2010, Dawn has been instrumental in BBO’s evolution and success. Since 1993 Dawn has performed with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra. She was Concertmaster for the Boise Music Week productions of Oliver and the Wizard of Oz and was Principal Violinist for the Idaho Shakespeare Festival’s production of Cabaret and Into the Woods. Dawn appears regularly with other Boise arts organizations including Darkwood Consort, Ballet Idaho and Opera Idaho. In addition, Dawn performs with the Arioso String Trio and is frequently seen on stage supporting nationally touring acts such as Mannheim Steamroller, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and the Moody Blues. In 2010 Dawn was recipient of Idaho Business Review’s “Accomplished Under 40” award – which recognizes professional accomplishment, leadership skills, community involvement and long-term goals. As a high school senior Dawn won a competition to represent the state of Idaho at the Congress of Strings. She received a BA in Music from Boise State University, where she served as concertmaster for BSU’s symphonic and chamber orchestras. She furthered her studies at the University of Louisville where she was Assistant Concertmaster for the university’s symphonic orchestra and Associate Concertmaster with the Music Theater of Louisville orchestra. Dawn is a passionate music teacher. She conducts Telford’s Adult Orchestra and has taught music at the collegiate, secondary, and elementary school levels. She’s currently focused on her private teaching practice and delights in seeing her students excel. |
