Laura Von der Heide earned her Bachelor’s degree from Boise State University in Music Education. Her parents were both educators and had a big influence on her career choice. Her teaching career started in the Pocatello School District, moved to the Boise School District and then the WestAda School District. She has taught for 36 years orchestra and general music to Kindergarten through 12th grade students.
She started performing with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra while still in high school and will be started her 49th season with that group. She has played in the 1st violin section, principal 2nd violin and has served as principal viola and assistant principal viola. She has played in the Idaho State University faculty string quartet, the Boise Philharmonic string quartet, the Idaho Falls Symphony, Bear Valley California Summer Festival, Sun Valley Summer Festival and Summerfest in Boise. She currently performs with the Boise Baroque Orchestra, The Boise Philharmonic, local area church events such as the Living Christmas Tree, and performs in quartets and trios for weddings and other special occasions. She maintains a private violin, viola and piano studio in her home. She is the mother of three children and grandmother to four grandchildren. Her hobbies include sewing, quilting, camping, reading and trying to keep her yard green.
